The Agroforestry Resource Center will provide leadership for the achievement of a sustainable balance between economic development and preservation of our forest dominated landscape in the Catskill Mountain/Hudson Valley Region. This balance will enable forest owners, farmers, policy makers, and the general public to attain economic viability in ways that protect and enhance the rural landscape while sustaining the ecological systems on which we depend for our quality of life.
The Agroforestry Resource Center provides leadership for the introduction of sustainable practices that enable forest owners and managers to attain economic benefits from the land, thus preserving our rural landscape.
The Agroforestry Resource Center will provide leadership for educational programs that result in enhanced forest resources, both from an ecological and economic standpoint, in the Northern Catskill Mountain/Hudson Valley region.
In addition, public outreach efforts will result in the nurturing and widespread application of a land use ethic; evidence of which will be found on farms, forests and among the population of the area, that recognizes the ecological, economic and inherent value of the forested lands that surround this region. The existence of this stewardship ethic will be evident in public policy decisions, land management practices, public acquisition and protection of forested land, preservation of local agriculture and day to day behaviors of average citizens.
